Almost 5% of the territory of Tanzania is the largest hunting reserve in Africa "Selous". Its area is approximately 54,600 square kilometers. Wildlife sanctuary "Selous" - one of the oldest in Africa. This reserve was founded in 1905 and named after the British hunter and explorer, a man who fought for the preservation of the unique African nature of Frederick Selous. He died here in 1917 during the First World War. Almost all his life, Frederick Selous gave to Africa. He enjoyed respect among famous hunters, was friends with then-US President - Theodore Roosevelt and helped him to pick up weapons for expeditions. In the park is the grave of this extraordinary man. In 1982, this unique place was inscribed on the World Heritage List.
